Many fruits are dense in nutrients. Follow the menu link to the specific fruit in our list of Super Foods that Heal for more information about it and it’s healing properties. Many fruits are rich in nutrients giving them a spot in our list of super foods that heal. Word of caution for diabetics: fruits are best included in your diabetic diet plan as whole fruits. fruit juices have a higher glycemic index due to the fact that when a fruit is juiced it becomes high in liquid sugar. The fiber is removed and fruit juice is much easier to be converted to blood glucose. You might be surprised at some of the fruits that are high in sugar. Some fruits high in sugar that might surprise you are grapefruit, lemon, lime, avocado, and other fruits with a sour or tart taste. Juicing is not a good idea for diabetics. Any fruit or vegetable that can be caramelized such as onions, leeks and others can be caramelized because of the sugar content in the fruit or vegetable. Sugars in a food does not mean the food is not a good choice for foods to include in a diabetic diet plan. What it does mean is the carbohydrates and sugars in that food need to be accounted for in an over all balanced food budget. |
