Site Navigation Tutorial

This site is very complex with lots of content and user features. Our goal is to make the site as easy to navigate as possible and to make everything available with a maximum of 3 clicks.

To accomplish this there are two primary navigation menus.

The top menu seen in illustration #1. This menu appears at the top of every page in the member's area.

The Second navigation menu is the one you see to the left of this page.

This Navigation tutorial will explain each menu and the sub-sections of the menu to the left.

Lets start with the top menu.

 Diabetic-Diet-Secrets.com Drop down menu

The top menu is primarily informational. We will use the "Healthy Diet" Menu tab to explain how it works.  The "Healthy Diet" tab is identified in the illustration as "#1 Healthy Diet"

When you place your cursor (mouse over) on the tab a sub menu will drop down. This is also called a drop down menu. You will then have the option of selecting the "Healthy Diet" Tab and viewing the page attached to it or selecting from a sub-topic.

In this example both sub-topics also have sub-topics. If you were to place your cursor over "#2 Diabetic diet" you would again have options. You could view the "Diabetic Diet" page by clicking on that menu item or select one of the sub topics (#3 in the illustration.) We have been able with this part of the site to reach our goal with 1 mouse click.

The Left side menu has several sub sections but they are all visible as you view the page. Several will take you to other pages with other options for what you want to do.

Members Birthday

Members Birthday shows us when a birthday is coming up if the member has entered their birthday in their profile. When it is someone's birthday a birthday greeting will be showing. This is just to help us with a feeling of community.

Who's Online

Who's Online tells us which members are currently online. This feature is useful if you want to communicate with other members either by email using the connections you have set up in your profile manager or using the forum.

Members Login

This is where you log in to be able to use all the site features, recover lost passwords or register if you are not already a registered member of this site.

The Main Menu follows this section.

Continue to the next page for the main menu

The Main Menu is primarily for viewing information that is not in the content categories in the “Top Menu”

The Main Menu is where you will find.

  • News articles. (Front Page, Blog, News Feeds) Members can submit health news through the user portion of the menu.

  • Links to other useful sites. As a member you can submit links that you think other members will find useful through your user menu.

  • FAQs  (Frequently Asked Questions) When the same question comes up over and over it will be posted in this section with an answer and links to more complete information where appropriate.

  • Members Pages Search the members list through “Members Pages” Find out more about other site members by reading their personal pages. When you make your own pages, your personal web site will be posted here for other members to search. Personal pages are managed in other places.

  • Healthy recipes (Recipes submitted by other site members) there are more complete recipe management tools lower on the menu.

  • Community Forum This is the place to socialize, ask questions, offer help, get or give peer support or anything else relevant to controlling diabetes, or talking to the admin team for this site.

  • File Sharing This feature is particularly useful for sharing our NutriBase meal, meal plan and recipe files. You will be able to upload your NutriBase files and download files submitted by other site members. The NutriBase Diet Software is at the core of what makes this site unique. Much of the nutrition advice offered on this site depends on being able to accurately analyze the meals we plan.

  • Site Goals This tab is in the menu to give the plan for the site and where it can go.

User Menu is covered on the next page. The User Menu is where you find the things you can do.
